Fraction vs. Percentage: What's the Difference?
A percentage is really a special kind of fraction. A fraction shows a part of a whole using any denominator (¾ = 3 out of 4). A percentage always shows the part out of 100 (75% = 75 out of 100). Because percentages share the same base of 100, they're easy to compare — which is why scores, discounts, and stats use them. ¾ = 75% = 0.75 are all the same value.
