Hey Varshu, here's a strange thought: the numbers you use every day — 0, 1, 2, 3 — are just agreed-upon symbols. [pause] But the system behind them is so clever, it lets you count to infinity using only ten digits.
Many people think numbers are just about counting on fingers. [pause] Actually, the real magic is in the positions — where a digit sits changes its value completely.
Step 1: Meet the ten digits. Just ten symbols — zero through nine — are the entire alphabet of our number system.
Step 2: The big idea — place value. The digit '5' in 50 means fifty, but in 5 it means just five. Same symbol, different power.
Step 3: Watch what happens when we run out of digits. After 9 comes 10 — we reset the ones column and add a new tens column.
